Register for HomeGrad of America
Parents, like you, came to us asking for help in teaching their children at home using these same teaching methods. We have successfully graduated homeschoolers from our program and take pride in the accomplishments they are now achieving in the careers of their choice. The HomeGrad of America program has a variety of services to choose from to make your homeschooling a rewarding experience.
Registration
The first step is registration. In California, as in most states, families are expected to have their school-age children actively attending school, with four hours of schooling per day, five days a week. A typical number of school days, excluding summer, weekends and holidays, is 180 days, although this may vary between districts. Homeschooling satisfies this requirement when it is done under the direction of a legally registered school. The school delivering such a program is responsible for administering certain tests, monitoring the curriculum taught and maintaining suitable records for families on their homeschooling program. When you sign up under our HomeGrad of America program we provide the following services:
1. Legal support: We work closely with our homeschoolers to ensure that these rudimentary legal requirements are in. Our program meets the academic requirements of most states. We have found that some school districts interpret their state's requirements differently than others. Some school districts are much less inclined to give up students to homeschooling than others, even though they are guided by the same state guideline. When you register with us you are automatically enrolled in the California Home School Legal Defense Association. This Association was set up to protect the rights of homeschoolers. For out-of-state families this association can direct you to help in your state.
2. State requirements: When you register with us you will be signed up with our HomeGrad of America program. You do not have to be a credentialed teacher to teach your own children. You, as the parent, are responsible for the administration and teaching of the program. We ask that each homeschooling family ensure they are meeting the guidelines set out by their local school district.
3. Bookstore: Our bookstore provides many choices in materials for your homeschool program.
4. Newsletter: Homeschoolers look forward to our issues of the HomeGrad News which include educational advice and references from the educational methods of L. Ron Hubbard, announcements of new and updated curriculum, as well as highlights on homeschooling families around the country.
5. Academic and attendance records: We will keep records of your progress to meet the California state requirements. We will send you a monthly attendance progress form, which you will fill in and send back to us each month. This is required to ensure your legal requirements are in with the state and federal education departments.
6. Study courses: For both parents and students we offer a variety of study and communication courses by L. Ron Hubbard, published by Applied Scholastics. Knowing and using the information in these courses is the key to a successful homeschool. These can be studied at home; we provide checksheets (step by step training guides), exams and instructions for you to follow. Once you or your child successfully completes a course we issue a certificate.
7. Starter pack: This pack includes verification of homeschooling, parent orientation letter, and a starter program for your child. We also include a copy of the Teacher’s Hat written by educator, Mr. L. Ron Hubbard. This publication comes with a step-by-step at-home training guideline for the parent.
8. Summer Program: We encourage homeschoolers to remain active on our program over the summer months. Students will receive credits while on our program and, best of all, move ahead in their studies, often graduating earlier as a result. For those families who wish to engage in a variety of non-academic summer activities, our Master Teacher may be able to extend academic credit for activities such as computer camp, traveling, and work experience.
